Olympics

Through the  IFSS  membership, the SSC-NL is affiliated with the world sports federation, in which all recognized sports are accommodated according to international sports laws.

This is the  GAISF , the General Association of International Sports Federation. The GAISF is again directly under the  IOC , International Olympic Committee.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded on June 23, 1894 and is the head of the Olympic Movement. The organization is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The President of the IOC is the German  Thomas Bach , who was elected successor to the Belgian in 2013  Jacques Rogge  .

The IOC promotes top-class sport as well as sport for all, in accordance with the Olympic Charter. An important task is to ensure that Olympic Games or Olympic Winter Games are organized every two years. The IOC owns all rights to the organization, marketing and television images of the Olympic Games. Most of the IOC's revenue comes from Olympic television rights and from the TOP sponsorship program.

The IOC has approximately 110 members and 30 honorary members from around the world. These are individuals who operate in their own country as representatives of the IOC. It is therefore not the case that they represent their own country within the IOC. Members are elected for eight years and may subsequently be re-elected for further eight-year terms. Members must retire at the end of the year in which they turn seventy. IOC members elected before 1999 can continue until the year they reach the age of eighty. The IOC members meet once a year during a multi-day IOC session. Each member has the right to vote and can contribute topics.

So should the sled dog sport ever become an Olympic sport, the SSC-NL is the ONLY Dutch association that can apply for Olympic status.
