Sports Club Netherlands

The aim of the SSC-NL is to promote the sled dog sport, in the broadest sense of the word.

The Sledehonden Sport Club Nederland was founded in 1988 and is affiliated with the:

- European Sleddog Racing Association (ESDRA), a European umbrella organization,

- The World Federation of Sleddog Sports, the International Federation of Sleddog Sports (IFSS)

- ESDRA partners with the World Sleddog Association (WSA)

Through the IFSS membership, the SSC-NL is affiliated with the world sports association, in which all recognized sports are accommodated according to international sports laws.

This is the GAISF, the General Association of International Sport Federation. The GAISF is again directly under the IOC, International Olympic Committee. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded on June 23, 1894 and is the head of the Olympic Movement. The organization is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The president of the IOC is the German Thomas Bach, who was elected successor to the Belgian Jacques Rogge in 2013.

The IOC promotes top sport as well as sport for all, in accordance with the Olympic Charter. An important task is to ensure that the Olympic Games or Olympic Winter Games are organized every two years. The IOC owns all rights to the organization, marketing and television images of the Olympic Games. Most of the IOC's revenue comes from Olympic television rights and from the TOP sponsorship program.

The IOC has approximately 110 members and 30 honorary members from around the world. These are individuals who operate in their own country as representatives of the IOC. It is therefore not the case that they represent their own country within the IOC. Members are elected for eight years and may subsequently be re-elected for further eight-year terms. Members must retire at the end of the year in which they turn seventy. IOC members elected before 1999 can continue until the year they reach the age of eighty. The IOC members meet once a year during a multi-day IOC session. Each member has voting rights and can submit topics.

So should the sled dog sport ever become an Olympic sport, the SSC-NL is the ONLY Dutch association that can apply for Olympic status.

The objective of the SSC-NL is to promote sled dog sport, in the broadest sense of the word. This means that the use of all types of sled dogs in the sport is allowed, PROVIDED the dogs are, PHYSICALLY, and MENTALLY capable.

In addition to promoting competitive sport, the SSC-NL will now also be more involved in touring with sled dogs.
People who prefer to tour with their dogs, instead of running competitions, can now also contact the SSC-NL for information.

When you become a member of the SSC-NL, you first become an aspiring member, after that you can become a full member if you have run 3 official snow competitions in 1 season. For more information about membership click here
